Martin Stankewitz prefers to work in series/collection of works and projects over longer periods of time from one to several years. This method emerged with public exhibitions on certain topics about local places and landscapes and the desire to record the changes that come with the seasons seasons in nature. Since 2004 he has worked on projects about local rural landscape and woodlands, the local villages and as a contrast also on urban landscape. From there he went to a project that was not based on real landscape but on historic landscape images in a series of monotype prints after G.B. Piranesi.
He also creates works in books that contain collections of sketches, drawings or paintings to create a group of works together in a very powerful book object. Those works are available as reproduction prints here. He also published facsimile prints of some of these projects as paperback books.
